【London】2016 London Open House Event 🇬🇧

Definitely worth going again.

Why? Simply because there was still a lot of buildings that Miss Wai Ting wasn’t able to go to T.T

Places like St Paul’s Cathedral and Westminister Abbey was already fully booked when she went to the Open House website, which is why next year Miss Wai Ting is going to be constantly checking to make sure she get’s a place!

Miss Wai Ting’s original plan was this:

  • The Gherkin
  • London Guildhall
  • Bank Of England
  • Borough Market (not part of Open House Event)
  • City Hall

However, in reality it was:

  • The Gherkin  There was so many people, we were never going to make it in
  • London Guildhall
  • Bank Of England
  • Borough Market
  • City Hall Same thing with The Gherkin, we were too late T.T

Which is why, Miss Wai Ting is definitely going again, so that she can go and visit the places that she wasn’t able to XD

Waterloo →Aldgate Station (The Gherkin)

To get from Waterloo to Aldgate station, you will need to take the Northern line (northbound) to Embankment (1 stop; ~2 mins) and from there change to Circle line (eastbound) to Aldgate (7 stops; ~13 mins).

Once you come out of the station turn right and you would see a few churches along the way. (~10mins walk)

Next to the Gherkin you would also see The Leadenhall building  (the one that looks like a cheese grater XD) see below

By the time Miss Wai Ting arrived, there was already a really long queue, and some of the staff was already telling us that we were never going to make it T.T

*The opening times was only between 0800-1200*

The never ending queue….

Miss Wai Ting found these sculptures behind the Leadenhall Building. Location 1 and 2 on the map below.

Guildhall → Borough Market

The nearest underground station was Bank Station next to the Bank of England. From there take the Northern line (southbound) to London Bridge (1 stop; ~2 mins). You will be able to see the market when you leave the station. Make sure you are taking the correct exit.

Because Borough Market is a food market, therefore Miss Wai Ting suggest you to come here with an empty stomach!  \(^o^)/

Miss Wai Ting recommends you to try this stall- they are well known for their paella. Simply look out for the stall with a huge crowd XD

You may have already seen this on Miss Wai Ting’s Instagram- It’s the first time Miss Wai Ting have come across this and she loves it! \(^o^)/  Miss Wai Ting has actually got some seeds and are waiting to see whether they can actually grow XD

Even though there was only 15 minutes left before they close the market, you can still see a lot of people! *The market closes at 1700; apart from Friday where they close at 1800*

Worried that you won’t have enough cash with you? Don’t worry there’s a cash machine inside the market- simply look out for the distinctive red telephone box (^.-)

Miss Wai Ting feels like she’s arrived at Diagon Alley from Harry Potter hahaha XD

Borough Market → City Hall/Tower Bridge

It takes around 15 minutes walk from Borough Market to the City Hall.

Unfortunately by the time Miss Wai Ting got there it was already past 1730, which was their last entry T.T even though there was still a lot of people queuing up. Guess better luck next time then.

This was the only picture Miss Wai Ting could take of the inside of the City Hall.

They are normally open on Mondays to Thursdays, 0830 to 1800, and on Fridays, 0830 to 1730.
